What is golden travelly?

Golden trevally (Gnathanodon speciosus) is a popular sport fish found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. They are a member of the jack family and are known for their distinctive golden yellow coloration, hence the name. Golden trevally are typically found in shallow, clear water environments such as coral reefs, rocky outcrops, and mangrove estuaries. They feed on a variety of small crustaceans, fish, and squid. They are highly sought after by anglers for their sporting ability, high energy, and aggressive behavior. Golden trevally are also an important part of the ecosystem, playing a role as a predator and controlling populations of smaller fish. However, like many other fish species, golden trevally populations are under threat due to overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change.
